don't stop short.

I’ve always thought of December as like, the Friday of months. It’s still life as usual, but with a better vibe – festive decor and music and twinkly lights.

And anticipation. Something new is coming, and we’re almost there.

Even though we know nothing actually changes when the clock strikes midnight on January first, the idea of new and fresh draws us in. It’s so appealing that we’re tempted to hit pause or stop short until things feel new and fresh. ‘Tis the season for: Let’s circle back to this in the new year. As if that’s what we need to keep us going.

But here’s the thing. “New” and “fresh” don’t come from a day on the calendar. And those things won’t actually make you feel better about what’s in front of you.

That’s why Jesus came. That’s what we’re celebrating.

He came right to us, hand delivering hope and peace. And when He left, He left us His presence and His power – the Holy Spirit. Because that’s what we need to keep us going.

When you don’t think you have enough, or you think you can sit down just because you can see the finish line, remember that you can keep going – or “play full out,” as my boss likes to say. Whether it’s working, resting, hosting, parenting.

You can fully show up to whatever is in front of you today, whether it’s Monday or Friday (or Thursday), January or December.

Don’t stop short. Play full out. Jesus came, finished the race, and paved the way so that we can too.

The power of God is in you, even on a Thursday.
