mat kearney | just kids
mat kearney is one of those artists who always releases such solid albums. no previewing or a first listen on spotify necessary, just give me all the tracks. also, it's been almost three years since he's released any new music (four, since he released a full album), but it was so well worth the wait, let me tell you. because, these songs. they're so mat kearney, if that makes any sense. they tell real and honest stories, mixing pop and rap (while also being categorized in the rock genre) in a way that makes you want to move. i've been listening to these songs on repeat since i made the purchase at 1am, the morning it released. i don't have a favorite track, except for the first one. i'm not a fan of the first one. but every song after that? yes, yes, yes, yes.
listen to this: "one heart."
emily hearn | emily hearn
you know those times when you totally judge an album by its cover art? this is one of those times where you can (and should), because you will be rewarded for picking up that pretty package. for someone who's not generally into female vocalists, i'm a fan of her sweet sound and heartfelt lyrics.
listen to this: "worth fighting for."
honorable mentions:
broods | evergreen similar to lorde, but better? i've been listening to it on spotify while i work.
james bay | chaos and the calm the whole album is good, but "let it go" kills me.
